Simplicity Rules…

WinXP? I’m so over it…

So I’m reinstalling WinXP Pro on one of our office’s workstations and I almost forgot how much of a chore it is. It’s not necessarily tough, it just takes quite a long time.

This particular PC was acting quite quirky and over the years I’ve found that it’s easier to wipe a PC clean and start over rather than spending hours to troubleshoot and fix a problem. Luckily, I set up all the office PCs where most of the information is housed on the server rather than the workstations. There is minimal backup needed before a re-install.

My frustration comes with the need to install all the needed drivers for PC to render video, play audio, recognize the network card, etc. Then there’s all the Windows Updates that need to take place.

Windows XP Reinstall

I haven’t even gotten to the SP2 update yet! I’m telling you…the simple yet powerful elegance of OS X really puts WinXP to shame. I have to give Microsoft some slack. It IS a 7 year old OS and they should do better with their next release…

Wait a minute… They did release a new OS. It’s called Vista or something like that. Isn’t that version of Windows worse than XP? Aren’t people going from the latest and greatest Microsoft OS BACK to WinXP?

Maybe I should count my blessings and be glad that I don’t have a ton of authorization windows to click through on this reinstall. So I guess I did find some good to good ole WinXP.
